What if it doesn’t belong there? What if you introduce a “foreign body” into your culture or environment?

The same thing which happens in the human body. The violent reaction of infection, illness, rejection which is designed within the astounding physiological machine we abide in is just like the reaction a culture experiences to something which doesn’t belong.

As leaders at any level, you must be on guard to protect and curate ideas, phrases, practices or habits which are contrary to the stated vision and practices of your team.

Furthermore, you must guard your own mind, emotions and choices with the same level of violent reaction to what does not belong.

Finally, you must guard your team against team members who desire to wield influence not consistent with the team culture, vision and purpose. Otherwise, there will become an internal revolt. The system will malfunction, rest will be sapped away, functionality will be significantly reduce and productivity will grind to a halt.

Like the food you eat, the words you hear, the thoughts you entertain and the people you allow to influence you will all have a profound impact on your balance and wellbeing.
