Are dreams and the sleep state random? Are dreams just brain junk or does a deeper wisdom lie in the unconscious world of dreams? The notion of the Eureka function!   In this episode Dave and Laura look at famous dreams which have shaped our lives or changed the course of the world. This is the notion of the dream state as inspiration and how creativity in our dream life can make exciting and unique connections, providing solutions to tough problems.   The hosts discuss famous scientific discoveries that have come during a dream when the dreaming rational mind creatively meets intuition.   They consider : the theory of relativity that Einstein discovered after watching Swiss cows jumping an electric fence during a dream. Benzine and how the chemist Kekulé dreamt its structure The dreaming of the Periodic table Dream vision of electrons and the atomic structure Conception of Google How the notion of the collective unconscious repeating in universal archetypes sits behind the discovery of the DNA structure in a dream

They then move onto famous music, art and literature that have emerged whilst dreaming. From Beethoven’s piano sonatas through to The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richard’s sleeping with his guitar which resulted in a ghostly recording of the first verse of I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.   Mary Shelley’s famous Frankenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde put both authors on the map after they appeared in dreams. As did ground breaking movies such as James Cameron’s Avatar and Terminator concepts. Hollywood wasn’t known as the dream factory for nothing.   In the art world Laura and Dave look at William Blake as well as Salavdor Dali and the Surrealists and discuss when Freud met Dali and the portrait that ensued.   https://www.freud.org.uk/2019/02/04/when-dali-met-freud/)   The "Dream of the Week" is the second part to a dream discussed previously. They look at the symbolism of the secret passage, the Promised Land and birthing dreams.
