Today we will celebrate the quirky turkey. Gather around to hear the legend of this famous fowl. Then we will get our wings flapping with three turkey-rific activities. Let's begin the turkey celebration now. The quirky turkey. Hello!

We've all heard about the funky chicken, but now it's time to learn the legend of the quirky turkey. It's a forgotten tale from long ago, and it all started the night of the Gobble Gala. Gobble, gobble, gobble.

Turkeys came from all over wearing their finest turkey feathers. Most came in wearing the traditional colors of black, white, or brown. One by one, the courtly turkeys were escorted to their tables. They ate a fancy meal of the finest granola.

After their bird food was gobbled down, the band started to play some classical bird music. Gobble, gobble, gobble, gallop, gobble, gobble, gallop. The turkeys stood up and swayed gently side to side. The gobble gallop was going really quite smoothly. But just then, a strange bird burst in through the door. Hello!

It had on sparkling neon feathers. Its tail was long and dazzling with every color of the rainbow. This was the quirkiest turkey to have ever attended the Gobble Gala. The other birds stared, not sure what to think. Then the quirky turkey spoke. This place is stuffier than stuffing. The turkey sashayed over to the band and handed them all some Turkish figs.

The band happily gobbled them up. Gee, thanks, Quirky Turkey! Sure thing! Now why don't you take those drumsticks and play us some real music? Sure!

Oh yeah, I am all about that bass! The quirky turkey began to bobble its head. It shuffled side to side. Then the quirky turkey flapped its magnificent colorful wings and waved them in the air. One by one, the other fowl joined the quirky turkey on the dance floor. They flapped their wings and bobbed their heads to the funky bird beats.

The quirky turkey tossed out some of its brightly colored feathers. Add a little pizzazz. The other turkeys at the gala fastened the feathers to their heads and tails. Soon there was sparkling neon colors everywhere. The turkeys grabbed one of their wings and swung their partners round and round. They giggled and gobbled. It was all so much fun. Ah!

And so, from then on, they would celebrate the Quirky Turkey with a song and dance at the Gobble Gala. And now, I will share it with you so that you can dance like the Quirky Turkey too. Flap your wings two times and sway them side to side. Then strut your stuff with... Quirky, quirky turkey, shake your tail. Quirky, quirky turkey, shake your tail.

Wobble move your head. Scrap your flock. Tell your friends it's time. Quirky turkey, quirky turkey. Shake your tail you better work. And along. Your wings two times. Hands swing them side to side. But start your stuff with pride. Quirky turkey, quirky turkey. Shake your tail you better work. Peeps grab your flock. Tell your friends it's time. Quirky turkey, quirky turkey. Shake your tail you better work.

Three cheers for the quirky turkey. What fun! And now we have another funky friend joining us in the studio. It's time for Fun Facts with Tildy the Tortoise.

Tildy is a tortoise. She's one of the oldest living creatures on the planet. She's been all around the world and has seen many, many things. She's joining us here today to share three fun facts. Isn't that right, Tildy? That is correct, Angie. I've been all around and seen just about everything there is to see. Today I have some fun facts about turkeys. Fact

Oh wow, Tildy! I wonder if they act out turkey charades too!

Fact 2: Turkeys have eyes on the sides of their heads and can turn their heads all the way around behind them. This is called periscopic vision, which means they can stand still and see 360 degrees around them. Wow Tildy, that fact is head spinning! Fact 3:

Male turkeys have something called a snood. It hangs off their beaks and can change color from blue to red depending on if the turkey gets angry or excited. Gobble, gobble, gobble. I'm feeling blue today. Gosh, turkeys don't even need to wear mood rings.

Oh, Angie, you're probably right about that one. If I ever become the first turtle to turn blue or red, I'll be sure to come back and let you know. Sounds good to me, Tildy. Come back soon and tell us even more fun facts. Goodbye, young ones. Now it's time for our three turkey-rific activities.

Our first activity is called the quirky turkey dance challenge. First, listen to the quirky turkey song from today's show or click on the link in the show notes to watch the official quirky turkey music video. Then get your wings flapping, your tail wagging and your head bopping.

Film yourself dancing your best quirky turkey dance. And then with the help of your adult, you can put it on social media. Use the hashtag kids listen. You can see a video example of me dancing to the quirky turkey song when you click on the link in the show notes. Happy dancing, everyone. Activity 2.

Our second activity is called Secret Turkey. Here's how it works. Before your next celebratory in-person or virtual dinner with friends and family, select the names of all the attendees in secret. Each person will have another person's name. Then write that person a special note or picture showing why you are thankful for them.

On the day of the celebration, put the note in an envelope with their name on it and set it on the table where they will be sitting. If your guest is celebrating virtually, send it via email. Then take turns opening and reading the messages from one another and try to guess who wrote it to you. Can you figure out who your secret turkey is? For our third activity, let's play Turkey Day Pictionary.

Here's how it works. Use the provided activity sheet or write down 20 words that have to do with Turkey Day. Words like cranberry, pumpkin, autumn, corn...

and turkey of course! A quick note here, if you're new to drawing, practice ahead of time so you feel more confident. Okay, once all of your themed words are written down, cut them out into strips and place them in a hat. You will also need some blank pieces of paper, drawing utensils, and a timer.

Then grab your family for a friendly game of Turkey Day Pictionary. Divide yourselves up into two teams. Each member of the team will take turns being the artist while the rest of the team tries to guess the secret word in under a minute. Be sure not to shout out the answer for the other team and only guess when it's your team's turn. The team with the most correct guesses wins.

I hope you have so much fun playing along with these quirky turkey games. Check out the show notes of this episode for directions and links to today's activities.
