André the Giant was a French professional wrestler and actor who was known for his great size and strength. He was born

André René Roussimoff in 1946 in a small French village. He had a condition called gigantism, which made him grow very fast and very tall.  He started his wrestling career in 1966, traveling around the world and performing in different promotions. He moved to North America in 1971, where he became a star attraction for the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), later known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and now WWE.

He had many memorable matches and feuds with other wrestlers, such as Hulk Hogan, Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, and Randy Savage. He also appeared in movies and TV shows, such as The Princess Bride, Conan the Destroyer, and The Six Million Dollar Man. 

He died in 1993 at the age of 46 from congestive heart failure. He was the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1993.
